Simulation of Metal Forming Processes and Patent Analysis for American National Can vs. Ball Corporation

JAR performed finite element simulations of the processes used to shape aluminum beverage can lids in support of the successful defense of American National Can Corporation in a patent infringement suit. JAR's sophisticated studies of these highly nonlinear processes provided critical expert evidence in this case. The finite element analyses involved large strains, plasticity, friction, and contact with multiple rigid tool sets.
